Staying focused on helping young people to live their best lives

As the pace of life continues and quickens, especially as kids head back to school, it is important to stop and remember why we do what we do – and for Ignition! that is empowering youngsters to be the best they can be.

Feeling second best in life is not good enough, and kids need to hear that from a young age. Young people who have believed they are not good enough into their teens or twenties need to be told the opposite is true – and fast!

Giving fuel to spark stronger self-esteem

To make the most of life, and to enjoy it at its fullest, young people need to know that they are enough. Just being themselves is enough. They shouldn’t believe other people are ‘better’ or they don’t ‘fit in’. This a destructive mindset. When they know that they are enough, these feelings will fade and disappear. And achieving this is what Ignition! is all about.

Finding the spark that gives fuel to the fire of self-esteem and fulfilment is not always easy, but with the right support it can be. Ignition! is designed to make a positive impact, fast. The coaching programme aims to transform the life of young people who have become mired in self-doubt and have lost their belief in themselves. Young people who are struggling.

Lessons from the heart

The course comes from a place of personal experience, with founder TeeJay Dowe bringing all her own experiences of poor self-esteem and frustration into her understanding of NLP and coaching to help transform lives.

Shy, insecure and lacking in self-esteem from the age of just 4-years-old, it wasn’t until she was nearly 40 years old that TeeJay learned being herself was enough and discovered a purpose that set her life – and self-belief – alight.

Through Ignition she is driven to use that knowledge and the skills she has learned to help youngsters in need transform their lives – allowing them to live their best life without feeling the pressure to be something they are not.

Through courses, podcasts, online resources and classroom workshops TeeJay continues to share this message of self-empowerment far and wide to help as many youngsters as possible.

Discover how to support young people

It is the theme of identity that kickstarts the return of the Back on Track Teens podcast this month. A mini-series on identity will feature several interviews with young people, who share their stories about growing up with identity confusion and discussing how they now identify and the journey to reach that place where they now are. This will be complemented by a PDF download resource for further information.

The role of developing a positive and resilient mindset to make the most of life and overcome any challenges is a key part of the message that needs to reach youngsters. TeeJay’s new book The Spark to Your Success: Mindset Magic for Teens, will help young people (and their parents or carers) put into practice techniques to support positive change. This is out now.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY THIS SEPTEMBER

Youth Mental Health Day, 7 September

Keeping the conversation open about mental health is so important, and that is the aim of Youth Mental Health Day on September 7. Introduced by youth mental health charity Stem4, the day will ask young people to reflect on their mental health and how the pandemic, in particular, has affected it – and how they can take steps to move forward and improved their mental health.

Sexual Health Week, 13-19 September

Also highlighting the importance of conversation, this year’s sexual health week will focus on the issue of consent. Young people need to understand consent from a young age – and the need to get consent and give consent. This importance of this issue cannot be underestimated for young people navigating healthy relationships.

Choose the life you want to lead

Having a purpose in life and an identity that you are comfortable with – and know to be the true you – are essential to happiness. Within the journey of growing up it can be all too easy to lose track of this – or not find it! With the right guidance and by being given the tools to forge a positive mindset, young people who are struggling can see their lives turned around.

Discover inspirational stories of reaffirming life experiences along with tips, support and advice – or share your experiences – within the online Back on Track Teens community.
