21 Dec Control your thoughts: Think positive
In an unpredictable and ever-changing world the one thing you can know that you always have control of is your thoughts.
Instead of just surviving though challenging times you can actually thrive by choosing to think positive and act in a way that moves you forward.
The way to do this is by maximising the 60,000 thoughts that you have every day. Your thoughts give meaning to everything that you do and everything that happens.
Through your experiences, memories, attitudes, values, upbringing and beliefs you bring meaning to what goes on in the world around. This can also be influenced by the people that surround you and the messages you take from the media.
See the world like Bob: Think positive
To help young people understand and visualise the concept of what they can and can’t control, Back on Track Teens employs the help of Bob.
You can see Bob by clicking here. Bob is a diagram that we’ve tried to bring to life to highlight how what you focus on is what you will feel. To protect and nurture your world you need to focus on the way that you think about things.
In short, this is developing the art of turning things around from darkness to silver linings, making half-empties half-fulls, and changing disappointment to appreciation.
Did you know that your only job in this life is to feel good? Using your mind to manage your emotions will lead you to experience positivity on your life’s adventure.
You are here to have fun but sometimes that means that you must find it. If you can’t find fun in a situation then you may have to create it. Bad things do happen, and we can all feel bad, but feeling bad is not going to make a situation better. The only way to make a situation better is to feel good and always look for the good.

Discover the fun in life: A challenge
My challenge to you is to consciously commit to discovering at least 10 things today, and every day for the next 10 days, 12 days, 20 days, 1 month that you are grateful for. Things that you appreciate, that make you smile, bring a warm fuzzy feeling, no matter how big or small – count them all and focus on those things each day to feel good.
If you have a gratitude journal or notebook, write them down each day or put them in your memory jars. If you would like a gratitude journal – I can send you one – just email me here and I will send you one.
“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.”
Anthony Robbins
Plan for the future
While counting 10 things you are grateful for, think about making plans to create a life you love.
Think about where you are now and where you want to be. Then plan how you can get there. Whether it is something you want to achieve or a place that you want to go to.
To successfully get there though you may need to map out more than one route. Have a back-up plan that will be there if something goes wrong. It is easy to become disappointed if something goes wrong but feeling bad is not your job. You need to feel good.
“Be thankful for everything that happens in your life; it’s all an experience.”
Roy T. Bennett
